Tell us your story? How and where did you meet?
Thomas: We
studied together in Campus in Kampala, the first time I saw her I knew
she was the one. It was not a bed of roses because it took months for
us to have our first date but I thank God my patience finally paid. We
have been together for the last 8 years.
Hajarah : We
met at university in Kampala it was not easy for me to make a move
coz first of all our nationalities being different I thought it cannot
be, because of our different cultures and way of life. But later on my
heart changed and I fell in love and I knew with God anything is
possible and he had chosen for me a husband and look it has been 8yrs we
have spent together. I will always thank God for giving us more
strength to carry on.
What do you love the most about each other?
Thomas : No
amount of words would ever describe her she is one in a million , her
personality and respect is out of this world, her smile and figure(8) I
love most .
Hajarah :
He is God fearing everything we do or plan he puts God first, I really
like that.. He is capable of doing anything for me in the name of
making me happy and I cannot forget he is very handsome too. Actually i
love everything about him.
How did he propose?
It
was a surprise, he had planned it for a while and he pretended that he
had lost his watch and asked me to assist him look for it. As we
searched everywhere in the house, he hid the engagement ring in a flower
vase. When I found it I just started crying as he knelt to ask me to
marry him.
For how long did you plan your wedding and what did you enjoy most about the planning process?
It
took us seven months to plan our wedding, we liked most interacting
with different vendors as we sort their services and bargaining the
prices downward felt like a win since we were financing our own wedding.
What challenges did you face in planning your wedding and how did you deal with those challenges?
Most
of the vendors preached water and drank wine, we had several instances
where many of them did not show up for those scheduled meetings and
others carried themselves with no respect. We continued to the next
vendor till we got the best and it worked perfectly.
What was your wedding theme and what inspired your choice of colours, suppliers and style?
My
husband’s favorite color is Gold yellow(him being a Kamba i understood
that) and mine is lime green so we thought why not combine the 2 colors
with black and a theme was born.
Your choice of attire was very impressive, how did you pull off the desired look?
The Mermaid Gown I wore was a dream come true. My husband’s suit was stunning and the bridal bubble outfits were all on point
What songs did you and your bridal team walk down the aisle to?
-Nipe macho by christina shusho.
-Mke si nguo by solomon mukubwa.
-From this moment by shania twain.
Give
a brief recount of the wedding day, from waking up till evening and the
things that were going through your mind at the time
Hajarah: Waking
up in the morning I thought now the new day has come thanks to God. I
didn’t have any appetite to take breakfast coz I was a bit nervous.
I
was forced to eat but I felt my stomach was full. All I was thinking is
to see my husband waiting for me at the church and the moment I saw him
I was so happy thinking we are going to be officially married before
God.
Thomas:
I patiently waited for her when I saw her all the years of waiting had
borne fruit I was really happy and smiled all day and I always thank
God for giving me a sincere wife.
You
must have learnt quite a number of things during the wedding process.
What did you learn regarding the planning process that you would like to
other couples to know?
Hajarah: I
discovered that it’s not easy planning a wedding as I thought before
and it takes determination and hard work for it to work.
Thomas: The financial implication borne out of the event is massive, so couples need to start saving early enough for their wedding
Any other tips/lessons you would like to share with other brides and grooms?
Start
early like 1 year to the wedding check for various vendors and compare
prices, the best wedding planner is yourself plan your wedding the way
you want not what the planner tells you.
Listen to advise but decide on what makes you happy and is realistic.
