Equatorial Guinea: Secured vital result

Equatorial Guinea captain Juvenal Edjogo-Owono says his side will aim to build on their morale boosting 1-0 win over Libya in their first African Cup of Nations clash.

Javier Ángel Balboa Osa scored the only goal of the match to seal all three points for his side in Bata.

The goal also secured a hefty bonus with the country's president's son Teodorin Obiang having promised to pay the players $1million for each victory and $20,000 for each goal scored.

The Sabadella midfielder, however, has insisted the promise of pay outs had little impact on the team's performance.

Juvenal told Cafonline.com: "The victory is very important for us. In competitions like this, the points are very crucial.

We will tackle the remaining matches with the same approach depending on the technical abilities of the team.

"We are very happy to win the first match and hope to build on it.

"Most of us play in Europe and are familiar with such packages. It is not for the money and that is not a major issue. We are determined to make an impact and that is the driving force."

The co-hosts tackle tournament favourites Senegal on Wednesday before facing Zambia four days later.
